Going to try to do something more than my usual numbered list!

So, bullet points instead ;)

• I particularly liked the fact that there were references for the pop-culture people to get (bit dubious about them changing their names by deed poll), and then all the usual clever-person references.
• I liked Mia’s clothes, especially the feathered coat, but ahahahahaha was she seriously sticking sequins/jewels onto a dead bird? Amazing.
• Nadine Lewington! It has been a good week for Holby/Casualty actor spotting, but I always loved Maddie.
• Ok, seriously, I think there will be more than one pathologist in Oxford. Either handwave that Hobson is always on duty or cast someone else occasionally, people. Extra super bonus points if you go ahead and cast anyone from Silent Witness.
• “You must see stuff like this all the time.” “Yeah.” “So who do you call?” “Good question.”
• “Chaplain? He must know a thing or two about burials and rituals. Just a thought.” – Jean Innocent solved the case right at the start, hahaha I love her. If I could plot crime fic, I would write SO MUCH Jean Innocent fic, seriously.
• I REALLY want Lewis/Silent Witness crossover fic. You don’t know how much.
• I wish they’d be consistent with the crime scene protocols on this show. The first time they went to the guy’s house, no gloves (with an old manuscript too, eeeek). Second time, Hathaway’s wearing gloves. For a show that prides itself on being smarter than the average bear, it’s an annoying misstep.
• “I called that number you gave me. It really helped.” – in my head, I finished off this line as ‘Yeah, I really fancied a pizza’ or something. /bad person
• Hathaway seems to be even skinnier than last series. Possibly it was the suit.
• I could be reeeeally off base in this, but hasn’t Celia Imrie played a similar character in something else recently? IMDB disagrees with me…
• I love Celia Imrie, by the way.
• “Less work, more sleep. I need your brain – all ten tons of it – in working order.”
• “Have I made it clear enough that he’s not my boyfriend?” – I thought Hathaway and Nadine Lewington were incredibly cute <3 – tempted to write a bit of fic when I’ve rewatched the ep. Also, HE BOWED TO HER.
• “Did you just bow to her?” “Yep, I think I did.”
• The Wednesday Club thing started off kind of funny and then tiresome and then it just got incredibly cruel :(
• “She’s a serial cop botherer.”
• Man, the curate dude was a dick.
• “Is that a clue? I’ve forgotten what clues look like.”
• “Ah, ignore me. I’ve got a touch of existential flu.”
• “I’m only going to say this the once. For your sake – you need a partner, James. You need someone in your life.”
• “All I’m doing really is retracing his steps.” – Celia Imrie was heartbreaking.
• While the curate dude was a total dick, I feel the kids should have worked out the whole thing was a bit iffy. I see why they didn’t, but omg critical thinking people, please.
• “I’m not going to lose this one.”
• “It’s the Wizard of Oz, isn’t it?” AMAZING. IT WAS.
• Hathaway losing his temper with Michelle was a bit odd.
• I did end up feeling sorry for Vincent and Mia.
• As I am currently channel hopping and Snatch is on, I would like to propose that Jason Statham appear in an episode. It would be amazing.
• Also felt bad for the lady at the end, “I never saw this possibility. That I’d be the one left behind.”
• Hathaway’s car was rather swish (presume it was his, I’ve never quite followed how cars work in this show)
• Somewhere in between last series and this one, I stopped shipping Lewis/Hathaway, wtf. It’s rather strange. However I do have L/H fic I want to finish, so by the time it has any impact on my writing the show will probably be over for good, hahahaha.

Final point I've just remembered: I don't know any spoilers for this series but I did find myself wondering if there was going to be some sort of series arc this time round, e.g. whether Nadine Lewington was going to be in a recurring role, and something else I can't remember right now. I think it could maybe do with an arc - the standalone thing does sometimes seem to mean there are character resets every so often.   This entry was originally posted at http://hestia8.dreamwidth.org/29707.html.

Great points, all of which I found to be just as lovely and perfect. I really enjoyed how Lewis shoved aside any of Michelle Marber's theories and was rude to her UNTIL he learned she had lost someone close to her and then he was all tea and sympathy. That says SO MUCH about the character of Lewis.

Grumpy Hobson makes my day.

Please can there be one, just one, I'm not greedy, storyline about Innocent? Can she be targeted by a serial killer or something? Or embroiled in a cover-up scandal type thing? I want it, I want it a lot.

Excellent icon :)

That's a really good point, I hadn't looked at it quite that way. It really does say a lot about him.

Hobson needs a holiday!

I really, really want Innocent to have something to do. I need to have a think about proper plots someone at her level might be involved in so I can try to write something!

• “You must see stuff like this all the time.” “Yeah.” “So who do you call?”

Ghostbusters, obviously. :-)

I can't see Celia Imrie in anything now without thinking, "hey, she flew a fighter ship in Star Wars*, she's properly famous now, how can a UK TV series afford her?" I think I may need to change my cultural reference points a bit...

• “I’m only going to say this the once. For your sake – you need a partner, James. You need someone in your life.”

Almost certainly wrong of me, but I kind of saw this as Lewis flirting with Hathaway. Sort of, "you need someone...make that someone me..."

I kind of lost attention during the final 20 minutes or so. May need a rewatch. Did James Fleet do it?

*Even if it was The Phantom bloody Menace...

Ha, yes, obviously Ghostbusters *g*

Oh, I think you can totally see it like that. It's odd, having now seen two eps, I can see the bits that L/H shippers are going to love (see yesterday's episode!), but I just...don't see it. I have no idea what happened, I used to ship them!

In case you haven't rewatched, yes he did it, but reckoned it was by accident because he was trying to cure cancer and they got in the way. Or something. It wasn't the best thought-out motive.
